At Rest
At Rest
Oil on board in hand made frame. After long, hard days at sea fishing for scallops, the working boats have returned to unload their precious cargo and rest up before heading out once again. In their working man's clothing, they are strangely beautiful and at peace.

Bio
I have always been involved with visual arts. Trained as an architect, buildings, urban environments and pristine landscapes have all been subjects of my drawings, paintings and mixed media artwork. I am especially interested in light and contrast -- how it affects the geometry of mood and place. Most recently, I have been working with monotone to intensify and simplif6y my work. I love using notans (simple black and white drawings) to create strong compositions and ambience. In my work, I strive to concurrently create both a sense of timelessness and being in the moment. Some of the artists whom I find especially inspirational are the painter Edward Hopper and the photographer Paul Strand.
Recent juried art shows in which I have participated include The Long Beach Island Foundation, NJ Plein Air Plus Show (Honorable Mention), The Spring Bull Gallery (Newport, RI), The Newport Museum (Newport, RI) and The Providence Art Club (Providence, RI). My work can be viewed on my website www.AndreaPilling.com.
