PLAN(et) B Ain't Pretty
PLAN(et) B Ain't Pretty
The ethereal beauty of our perfect earth is represented in the form of a meditation globe, resting atop a pedestal with the remnants of a fragile live edge to reference the precarious place in history where we currently exist. Juxtaposed to this is Plan(et) B, deflated atop scorched and distressed wood with remnants of ash and coal scattered about, referencing the dismal earth future generations will inherit if immediate action is not taken to address climate change. This collaborative Art as Activism piece on climate change was the recipient of the Wayne Art Center Craft Award and the 2nd in Show Award at Studio B's Eco-World Juried Art Show. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of PLAN(et) B Ain't Pretty will be donated to The Sunrise Movement, a non-profit group of driven individuals dedicated to empowering youth around climate justice issues. Learn more at SunriseMovement.org! Wheelthrown and altered stoneware, shaved and sculpted stoneware, underglazes, multiple hand-mixed glazes applied by pouring, dipping and spraying; turned black walnut pedestal, black walnut base distressed, torched and finished with multiple coats of sealant.
